First City Pride Center Appoints Michael Bell as Executive Director
Savannah, GA — March 6, 2024 — The First City Pride Center (FCPC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Bell as its new Executive Director. Bell brings over two decades of experience as a community organizer, mental health advocate, and human rights activist to his new role. His extensive background includes serving on executive boards for both national and local organizations, with a focus on mental health and the LGBTQ+ community.
Having previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Hudson Pride Center, New Jersey’s largest LGBTQ+ Center, Bell has demonstrated remarkable leadership in addressing the diverse needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Under his guidance, Hudson Pride Center achieved significant milestones, including forging strategic partnerships to improve access to quality healthcare for LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly those living at or below the federal poverty line.
"We feel fortunate to have Michael’s expertise in dealing with nonprofits of our size and all the challenges that will bring," said Sean Brandon and Brandon Earhart, Co-Chairs of FCPC. "We look forward to the new directions that he’s already working on for the organization but, more importantly, the larger community."
Bell's commitment to advocacy extends beyond his professional endeavors in both the hospitality and telecommunications industries. As a national broadcaster, Bell has been a prominent voice for LGBTQ+ activism, hosting shows on SiriusXM radio and PBS.
Bell has received numerous awards for his dedication, including the Sue Ann Big Crow Award from the National Education Association and the Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign. He also served on several boards, including The Diversity and Inclusion Board of Jersey City, Ethical Community Charter School, and the National 4-H Council.
"My husband and I are grateful to become part of the Savannah Community," said Bell. "FCPC is at an important crossroads in expanding our existing programming and creating a healthcare model that breaks down barriers for all our LGBTQ+ community—from youth to seniors."
Bell's appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the First City Pride Center as it continues its mission to serve and empower the LGBTQ+ community in Savannah and beyond.
